(October 2, 2012—CINCINNATI, OH) Franciscan Media welcomed Richard Rohr, Franciscan priest and the founding director of the Center for Action and Contemplation (CAC), to its headquarters in Cincinnati, Ohio, during Rohr’s travel throughout the state last week. Accompanying Rohr was Alicia Johnson, the executive director of the CAC, located in Albuquerque, New Mexico.
While at Franciscan Media, Rohr—a top Franciscan Media author—presented a lecture to the staff, voiced the foreword in an audiobook, discussed future publishing plans, and shot footage for video trailers for his two newest Franciscan Media titles: Breathing Under Water: Spirituality and the Twelve Steps and Preparing for Christmas: Daily Meditations for Advent. The videos will soon be available on Franciscan Media’s Catholic Sampler YouTube channel.
The CEO and publisher of Franciscan Media, Fr. Dan Kroger, expressed his gratitude for Rohr’s visit: “We are extremely grateful that Fr. Richard was able to carve out time in his busy travel and speaking schedule to visit us. His talk to employees was very well received.”
Rohr told the Franciscan Media staff about his start in the Province of St. John the Baptist in Cincinnati, the same province who sponsors the work of Franciscan Media and whose ministry and charities Franciscan Media supports. As Rohr explained, his speaking and writing ministry first began when he founded and grew the New Jerusalem Community during the 1970s, a pioneering group of lay Catholics and Christians in Cincinnati.
Rohr, a globally recognized ecumenical teacher, considers the proclamation of the gospel to be his primary call, and addresses the related themes of eco-spirituality, Scripture as liberation, non-dual thought, the integration of action and contemplation, peace and justice issues, and male spirituality. Author of numerous books, including many Franciscan Media titles found here, he gives retreats and lectures internationally. He is a regular contributing writer for Sojourners and Tikkun magazines.
