Evolve Chesapeake Creation Spirituality Community & Creation Spirituality Communities

Creation Spirituality Gathering celebrates and engages world wisdom, new cosmology, mysticism, creativity, and justice-making, announce co-hosts Evolve Chesapeake and Creation Spirituality Communities.

From countering the dogma of original sin in his culture-changing bestseller Original Blessing, to portraying a soon-to-be canonized medieval abbess as “herald of the Divine Feminine, green prophet and church reformer” in his upcoming book Hildegard of Bingen: A Saint for Our Time, internationally-acclaimed spiritual theologian, Rev. Matthew Fox, Ph.D., has made headlines throughout his career.

And on Friday, July 27, at the Rockville Unitarian Universalist Church (open to the public for a $15 donation), Fox will invite his listeners to experience the Divine through awe and wonder, loss and grieving, creative inspiration, and spiritual activism as he explores the theme of the weekend’s Creation Spirituality Gathering: “Awakening Imagination for Transformation.”

A leading-edge voice for mystical spirituality, deep ecology and religious reform, Fox is the author of 30 books, including the recent searing expose, The Pope’s War.  He has helped to midwife the birth of a movement that celebrates embodied spiritual practice, oneness with creation, personal awareness, social and environmental justice, and educational empowerment.

Fox’s Friday keynote offers a taste of the weekend program, which is hosted by Evolve Chesapeake Creation Spirituality Community and Creation Spirituality Communities (CSC).

Participants may register onsite for the remainder of the Gathering, featuring a Saturday workshop by Fox on Intergenerational Spiritual Activism; sessions on Creation Spirituality, Body Prayer and Sacred Art Activism (spotlighting imaginative dragon puppets by artist activist Mary Plaster); and an evening “Cosmic Celebration” based on the Cosmic Mass developed by Fox. Sunday features a visit to the Martin Luther King, Jr. Memorial, ending in a picnic and Sacred Gathering at Evolve Chesapeake in Annapolis.

Conference Co-chair Patty McGrath, D.Min., a long time Creation Spirituality activist, says, “We are very proud to bring Matthew Fox, and his prophetic, inclusive message of God’s radical justice to the DC area.”

Co-Chair Wayne Schwandt, D.Min., Pastor of Evolve Chesapeake, says, “Fox’s Original Blessing stands at the heart of our community’s practice, countering the dominant fall/redemption model of Christianity. We support the emergence of the prophet, artist and mystic in everyone.”
