FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
In 2006, six people embarked on a journey from Phoenix, AZ, to Washington, D.C. In 2007 they released the film "Asphalt Gospel" which chronicles that Walk. In three short years the organization known as CrossWalk America (CWA) has garnered support and attention across the country and around the world. After a great deal of deliberation, the CWA board decided that their mission to share the inclusive message of love and compassion could have an even deeper impact by joining a well established national organization, The Center for Progressive Christianity.
The Center for Progressive Christianity (TCPC) has a fifteen year history as the lead organization for a Progressive Christian voice in our nation. Through these past three years TCPC continued to support the efforts of CrossWalk as one of the ways it seeks to further progressive Christian witness. In June of 2008 these two organizations will come together under one banner, with one continued purpose: to lift a voice for compassionate, inclusive Christian values and ideals. As Fred Plumer, the President of TCPC labels it, "A Different Christianity."
CrossWalk will become part of The Center for Progressive Christianity, making for a stronger and broader Progressive Voice in the nation. The work of CWA will live on through the film, walking spirituality, and the ongoing expression of Progressive Christian Faith embodied in the Phoenix Affirmations (12 spiritual principles that detail Jesus' core values of Love of God, Love of Neighbor, and Love of Self). All of it will be housed under one organization: The Center for Progressive Christianity.
CWA will cease to function as a 501(c)3 organization but the spirit and work that is CrossWalk America will continue long into the future. CWA expresses deep gratitude to its supporters and encourages them to keep connected to the movement by registering at www.tcpc.org where you can also review their online resources, order the film and other items, and make tax-deductible donations. TCPC promotes an approach to Christianity that is inclusive, innovative, informed - and one that will carry forward the spirit of CrossWalk for generations to come. We celebrate this positive step forward.
